I think I held my breath last two laps there. So I was trying to go fast enough down the straightaway and then back my corner up to let the lapped cars get a little bit ahead. “It was rubbered just enough down the straightaways, if you got too close I’d get an aero push and then I was afraid I'd miss the rubber getting in the corner. I couldn't go full speed because I couldn't get caught up behind those lapped cars. “I’m sure that wasn't the best race y'all ever seen here, but it was definitely hectic from where I was. “It was just like racing at Cherokee (Speedway in South Carolina), me and Madden (finishing) one and two in the rubber, what do you know?” said Davenport in victory lane. While he may still be smiling on the way to the bank Monday, he’s likely one of the few who left Eldora too giddy as Davenport’s dominance over the final half of the 100-lap affair was made much easier as the track developed a distinct preferred groove. The victory gives Davenport his ninth career big-money payday at the historic track and brings his earnings to $1,539,022 just in those nine Eldora races. So, if we come back here for the Dirt Track World Championship and win again, hell, me and (team owner) Lance (Landers) might sell all this (stuff) and buy us a boat.” I knocked two of them off last year and we just knocked one of them off here. “Last year I had four races circled that I still needed to win. “(It) just feels good to finally go and celebrate this victory instead of just the money,” said Davenport. of Chandler, Ariz., climbed six positions to finish fourth and polesitter Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., led laps 1-25 before slipping to fifth. Madden, who started ninth, had to settle for second for third straight time, while third-starting Pierce finished third after leading four laps. Once in the lead, Davenport was never threatened, though runner-up Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., did narrow the gap to 3/10ths of a second with less than five laps remaining. Taking the lead from Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., with an inside moved through turns three and four on lap 30, Davenport led the final 71 laps to win Dream XXIX, a triump worth $129,000 for the 39-year-old superstar. Saturday, Davenport finally managed to make it to the finish first. But nonetheless, he still trailed Bloomquist across the stripe in the one the mattered most. He won a pair of preliminary features that weekend. Just because the record book says he won, however, to Davenport, the victory didn’t happen quite like he wanted. The Hall of Famer’s disqualification handed Davenport his first career triumph in an Eldora crown jewel. But he inherited it, a gift so-to-speak, from Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., who crossed the finish line first, only to weigh 25 pounds light at the scales afterwards. No, Davenport actually won his first biggie at the famed Tony Stewart-owned half-mile that day. So why would the Blairsville, Ga., driver think he still had any boxes left to check off at the Big E entering the 29th annual Dream? He won the 2020 Intercontinental Classic, the $50,000-to-win event that replaced the World 100 during the Covid-19 pandemic. He owns five globed trophies, cementing his World 100 prowess. While the world of Dying Light 2 feels gritty and real, the combat throws all of that out the window in the favor of ridiculous and over-the-top action. Sending bandits and undead alike careening off of objects had me laughing hysterically. What is not endless though is physics and how it is treated in Dying Light 2. From electrically charged knives to explosive shotgun-style weapons your options feel almost endless. Dying Light 2 has a straightforward and intuitive crafting system that makes it quite easy to upgrade your favorite weapons. With a wealth of unique bladed and blunt weapons at your disposal, you will find no shortage of tools to eliminate your foes. Perfectly timed blocks and dodges to then leap over an enemy and dropkick the person behind them off a rooftop is incredible. However, after a few hours and a few upgrades, combat becomes incredibly fluid and rewards you for perfection. In the beginning, I was worried that the combat would get boring and repetitive with its dodge/block plus smack enemy with the right trigger. The thrill of leaping through a tight gap as a horde of zombies pursues you have been some of my favorite gameplay moments so far this year.Ĭombat is explosive, and nuanced without being overly complicated. The ability to almost flow like water around the city never loses its charm, and the variety in animations for traversals was exceptional. I have not had this much fun with a parkour system since the original Assassin’s Creed all the way back in 2007. Especially rolling, which feels incredibly odd in a first-person perspective.Īs you master and learn more of these techniques, it only becomes more fluid. Some of the parkour moves can be disorientating at first. As you upgrade your parkour skills through simply free running and exploring the city, you will gain more maneuvers and moves that make traversal even more fun. Luckily, it feels incredibly natural in Dying Light 2. The first-person perspective can be very hard for developers to coordinate when it comes to combat. While Chivalry 2 remains one of my favorite games from 2021, it is rare to find a melee-focused game as fun as Dying Light 2. It is not too often I enjoy melee combat from a first-person perspective. I was impressed by the smoothness of Dying Light 2. Dying Light 2 Kicking Off With A BangĪ fun and engaging gameplay loop can be the difference between an ok game, and an absolutely amazing game. While the combat and parkour remain immaculate, Dying Light 2 suffers from its dated open-world design and a variety of bugs. Now, over 7 years later, Dying Light 2 is finally here. Dying Light was heavily supported with a wide variety of post-launch content from the developer’s Techland. From its unique parkour and melee-focused combat, the franchise developed a massive following. Despite this, the game still managed to stand out. The original Dying Light was released back in 2015 and during a time period that was packed with other zombie games. Over time, the Kotl regressed to the same level as their former servants, becoming the Sakkhra, just one more tribe in the valley. The fleeing Kotl sealed the city, but retained a key, which could be used to open the entrance should a return become possible. The Myrmidex returned, and despite the best efforts of the Kotl, drove their creators from their underground city. The Kotl continued their lives in their underground city, until the last blow was struck against them. While the humans acted as servants for a short period, eventually they also rebelled and left to live out their lives in the valley above the city. Katalkotl found a species of intelligent mammals, and brought several tribes to the city to act as servants. Still desiring menial labour, the Kotl sent an explorer named Katalkotl outside the valley. While the generators could draw power from the stone from a great distance, the Myrmidex now blocked any further access to the stone. However their plans went awry, as the ants, which they had named the Myrmidex, retained the ants warlike disposition, and fled the city, taking with them the black stone which provided the city's power. To rectify this lack, their scientists used the energies of the stone to mutate and breed a species of giant ants, intending to utilize their industrious nature as servants. Made lazy by reliance on their machines, the Kotl decided there were not enough automatons to provide the service they desired. And failing to recognize the significance of their actions, the Kotl continued to draw power from the stone.įinally the energies drawn by the Kotl reached the limits that the stone could supply. Inside the field of energies, time accelerated, sending the region hurtling faster into the future, creating a time capsule, a relic of a time millions of years before. The otherworldly energies, capable of warping space and time to create gateways, were slowly released without focus, spreading over the entire valley. They had no idea of the price that might be charged for their actions.Īs power was drawn by the Kotl machines from out of the black stone, it became unstable. They designed machines to draw power from it and constructed a vast underground city, with automatons to perform menial tasks. Over time, the wise men and shamans of the Kotl learned to manipulate the energies of the black stone which lay in the valley they called. The saurians had made the step from non-sentient animals to true reasoning, intelligent beings. The tools they learned to make more than compensated for the loss of natural weapons. Over a considerable period of time the evolutionary process continued, the individuals becoming less and less formidable as individual hunters, but learning to cooperate and hunt together to improve their efficiency at survival. Within the valley a species of dromaeosaur was evolving, slowly changing in physical shape to a form less deadly, but with a compensation unique in the reptilian kingdom then extant. In another world, a stone of this type was called a moonstone. The meteorite was composed of a strange, dense black substance, not entirely in phase with the universe containing it. Three hundred million years ago, a meteorite struck the single large landmass on the third planet of a small yellow star, striking the earth inside a deep river valley. 3.5 Items Improvised From Available Resources.3.2 The Totems and Offerings of the People.3 Items Rare and Commonplace within the Valley. An old-school RPG in the tried-and-true Ultima tradition.A highly interactive world where you can harvest plants, gather minerals, and craft items from gathered materials.Journey to a fierce jungle where savage dinosaurs, stone-age tribes, and mad scientists make their home!.Featuring a text-based conversation system along with turn-based combat, Worlds of Ultima 1: Savage Empire should find a permanent space on your hard drive.
